How to Wear Fragrance: The Lumière Method
A fragrance is finished by the person wearing it. The same chapter of L'Arbre de Vie reads differently on every skin — but a few quiet principles help any perfume speak clearly, and stay longer.
Begin with skin, not fabric
Perfume is designed to live on warm skin. Apply to the pulse points where blood runs close to the surface — the inner wrists, the sides of the neck, the hollow of the collarbone. Warmth carries scent upward through the day, the way a tree draws water from its roots.
One ritual matters more than any other: do not rub your wrists together. Friction crushes the top notes — the bright opening of bergamot or blood orange — and skips your fragrance straight to its middle. Spray, and let it settle on its own.
Moisture holds memory
Fragrance clings to hydrated skin and slides off dry skin. An unscented moisturiser applied a few minutes before your perfume can double its presence. This is why scent lasts longer in summer humidity, and why winter wear rewards a richer chapter — an oud from Les Racines rather than a bright morning from Les Branches.
How much is enough
An eau de parfum asks for restraint: two to four sprays. One at each wrist, one at the neck. For the deepest chapters — Sultanat Oud, Royale Oud — two sprays are a statement; for the luminous ones — Hayal, Paradis de Bleu — four feel like weather rather than perfume. The goal is a presence people step toward, never away from.
Fabric, used deliberately
Skin gives a fragrance its evolution; fabric gives it endurance. A light mist on a scarf or the inside of a lapel will hold scent for days — Sultanat Oud has been found on a scarf long after the evening it was worn. Keep fabric application light, and never on delicate silks.
Keep the bottle in the dark
Light and heat are the enemies of a living formula. Store your bottle in its coffret, away from the bathroom's steam and the windowsill's sun. A fragrance kept dark and cool stays true for years — the box is not packaging, it is architecture.
Not sure which chapter is yours? The Discovery Set holds all eight in story order — read the tree from crown to taproot before you choose.
