The taproot, the deepest fragrance of the collection. Saffron, cardamom and juniper open bright, rose de Mai and osmanthus bloom beneath them, and what remains is suede leather, styrax smoke, frankincense and sandalwood. It changes on the skin over the hours, the way time does.

The notes. Top: saffron, Guatemalan cardamom, juniper berry. Heart: rose de Mai, Chinese osmanthus, an oud accord. Base: suede leather, Somali frankincense, styrax smoke, Australian sandalwood, patchouli.
The character. A leather and saffron oud: dark, smoky and mature, with rose de Mai at its heart. The accords are leather, oud and smoke, with frankincense and sandalwood in the base. Unisex.
When to wear it. Evenings and the cold months, for anyone drawn to leather and incense. For the hours when nothing should follow you but the scent itself.
Where it sits. The eighth and final chapter of L'Arbre de Vie. Chérie Oud is the gentle way into oud. Impériale Oud and Sultanat Oud are the two built on natural Oud Assafi, both $165. Royale Oud is the deepest, on an oud accord.

Inspired by Time
It smells the way time does.
The taproot is the deepest fragrance of the tree, composed so the passage of time happens on the skin. Saffron, cardamom and juniper arrive bright and leave, the way loud things do. Rose de Mai and osmanthus bloom and slowly fade, the way beautiful things do. What remains is suede leather, styrax smoke, frankincense and sandalwood, and they hold on while everything else passes.
